ANIMAL REPELLANT

DOG:

Having a dog is one way to keep animals away from your garden. However, this may only work temporarily, as many animals, such as deer catch on rather quickly that the dog is probably harmless. Also, you never know where a certain animal has been. You don’t want your dog getting rabies or any other diseases associated in animals of the wild. If your dog isn’t always outside – this isn’t a dependable form animal repellant.

It really comes down to deciding for yourself, which kind of animal repellent works best for your particular problem.

SQUIRRELS:

Squirrels may look cute, but when they start becoming a pest - they can do some severe damage to your property and structures surrounding your property. Squirrels are capable of entering attics. Once in your attic, they can cause severe damage to your things. They may also have produced a litter of several more baby squirrels.

There are a few recommended preventive measures that can be taken to deter squirrels from entering your property and ruining everything in sight. Pruning trees and removing any decorative trim or attachments, is one way to disable the squirrel from entering your house. There are also squirrel repellants that you may use. (See DEER-OFF above) And, another way to get rid of squirrels is by using a caged trap which you can than take down the road and let them loose. It all depends on which method you are most comfortable with.

RACCOONS:

This is one animal that can be very annoying since they are nocturnal. They love to dig through garbage cans or dumpsters. They are also capable of crawling down a chimney or getting into your attic. If raccoons are getting in through your chimney, you can purchase a chimney cap. Or, for the raccoon that loves going through your garbage, having a secure garbage lid will deter their attempts at getting in your garbage. Again, having a trap can also be used.

GROUNDHOGS:

These creatures are common garden pests. They especially love homegrown vegetables. They will eat just about any vegetable or fruit that is grown in the garden. As you know, these creatures are able to dig under ground, so an animal repellant such as a fence would do no good. Again, using a trap is another form of repellant for these sorts of animals. However, it is important to be careful since groundhogs are known to carry rabies.

MICE AND RATS:

To many, mice and rats are the most annoying of all pest animals. It is not as difficult; however, do get rid of these pesky creatures due to their smaller size. Again, many different forms of repellants are available. First, it is important to take necessary steps in advance in order to prevent these creatures from entering your house in the first place. Eliminating food sources is very important. Even the smallest of crumbs may attract a mouse or rat which then attract their friends and family.

Some ways of getting these rodents out of your house is by using a device, which emits a high frequency ultrasonic sound, which frightens these animals outside. And, of course there are the basic mousetraps and glue traps. Using certain poison techniques is another effective way of getting rid of these pests.

COCKROACHES:

Even though these pests are smaller in size, they seem to be the most loathsome among all pest creatures. Not only are they disgusting, but they can spread disease and have even been linked to allergies in humans. One reason why they are so terrifying to us is because they only come out in the dark. The thought of sleeping in the same room as these things crawl around the wall is an awful feeling. Sealing of cracks is one way to stop the invasion of these pests. However, if this is not possible and they have already become a problem, using sticky glue traps is one way to get rid of them.

Pesticides are another form of animal repellant use for cockroaches. They can range from liquid sprays to foggers to bait materials.
