When deciding on the type of music for your wedding, there are several key points to keep in mind. The ceremony itself consists of four stages of music where you may have an organist or soloist perform, unless you perfer to hire a choir! (note: In Orthodox Jewish ceremonies music is not played at all.)

The Prelude
As the guests arrive and take their seats, music floats through the air to create a tranquil, peaceful effect. Several peices should be picked here that may end abrubtly when the mother of the bride makes her entrance.

The Processional
This is the point where the bridal party then bride herself make their entrance. The traditional "Here comes the Bride" march theme can be played however extra brass and percussion can be added to announce the brides entrance.

Ceremony Music
Throughout the ceremony hymns and peices are played to signify certain points. Most couples are allowed to help choose these hymn which should be well known peices (unless your family and friends can not sing, pick peices that no one will know!).

The Recessional
The moment after the two of you are announced as a married couple, music begins. This peice should be heart felt and one the both of you will remember your entire life.
The Reception Music
You are now married and are celebrating the fact with close family and friends at the reception. A popular tradition is hiring a DJ to play a mix of music. The advantages of this quite simply is that you are able to satidfy everyone. You may play a specific order of music or let your guests "dedicate" music throughout the reception. Another alternative would be to hire a band. You have several choices here. You may want to hire a group who specializes in wedding receptions, therefore playing music specific to your style. You may want to reconsider the idea of hiring a rock band to play. You may upset Grandma or Uncle Lou!. One more option would be to play classical music to set a formal mood
